SB1070

SB1070 basically gives local law enforcement agencies throughout Arizona the job of enforcing federal immigration law inside Arizona. The purpose of the law is to crack down on aliens entering the coutry, aliens living here already and it also sorta leans twoard limiting drug trafficking across the border. Their reason behind this is something along the lines of just wanting to uphold federal law but it does seem a like SB1070 is giving police officers a little to much authority.

Global Financial CRISIS!!!!

             Friend or Foe?

With the global financial crisis in full swing, Americans are quick to blame
anyone who may have had an effect. Times Magazine’s web article titled, “25 People to
Blame for the Financial Crisis” is a very good example. From Alan Greenspan to
American Consumers, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, it’s easy to see we really don’t
know whom to blame. I on the other hand believe that we can lay most of the blame on a
few branches of our own American government who have been failing to perform their
designed functions.

One of the most talked about causes of the Global financial crisis are the buying
and selling of subprime mortgages that took place on Wall Street. Companies were
getting rich selling worthless mortgages and getting away with it. Several different
businesses were involved and to many of them are not being held accountable for the
financial crisis that proceeded. So I ask, where is our government? And why have actions
not been taken against these companies, more importantly why wasn’t anything done to
prevent a financial disaster such as this?

“The mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect
investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.”
The Justice Department is assigned to ,“enforce the law  ……  to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.”
“(The) Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs,  ….. (has responsibility for)  all proposed legislation, messages, petitions, memorials and other matters relating to …. Banks, banking, and financial institutions, control of prices of commodities rents and services, deposit insurance, economic stabilization and defense production, federal monetary policy, including the Federal Reserve System, financial aid to commerce and industry, issuance and redemption of notes, money and credit including currency and coinage as well as Public and private housing (including veterans housing).
Although its easy key players like AIG, JP Morgan and Citigroup may have been the types of businesses involved in shady transactions leading up to our current financial crisis, its not farfetched to say that we should also hold our government accountable for letting this happen unchecked. Is it not clear above that many of the functions listed in their own mission statements are being neglected? If in fact they are doing what they’re supposed to be doing, why are we here today struggling to make ends meet. In order for our nation to avoid future financial turmoil it is essential that we monitor our government agencies more closely to ensure nothing is slipping through the cracks.
